Polymer bonding agent is a liquid chemical applied to an existing concrete or plaster surface before a new layer of mortar, plaster, or repair compound is placed — creating a strong mechanical and chemical bond between old and new substrates that prevents delamination, shrinkage cracking, and premature repair failure.
Without a bonding agent, new mortar applied to a smooth, carbonated, or low-suction concrete surface relies only on mechanical keying — which is rarely sufficient on its own, especially for thin layers, patch repairs, or surfaces that have been painted or contaminated. Polymer bonding agents wet the substrate, improve surface energy, and provide an active bonding interface that the new layer keys into properly.
