Integral waterproofing compound is a liquid or powder admixture added directly into concrete or mortar during mixing to reduce permeability and block capillary water movement from within the cement matrix — used in roof slabs, terrace concrete, basement walls, and water-retaining structures during new construction.
Surface coatings protect from the outside and depend on adhesion to stay intact. Integral waterproofing works differently — it becomes part of the concrete itself, filling microscopic pores and reducing the internal channels through which moisture travels. There is no layer to crack, peel, or delaminate because the protection is built into the mix.
