Grey vs White — Which Colour Adhesive?
Use grey adhesive for dark tiles, granite, and any opaque tile where the adhesive colour won't show through. Use white adhesive for marble, glass mosaic, translucent stone, and any light-coloured tile where a grey adhesive would dull the colour. White costs slightly more but prevents the dark shadow effect on pale tiles.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Using Type 1 cement adhesive for vitrified tiles — vitrified tiles don't absorb, so a basic C1 adhesive can't grip them. Use at least Type 2 (C1 T E).
- Using interior-grade adhesive on an exterior wall — the adhesive must handle thermal movement, rain, and UV. Use Type 3 or above for any outdoor application.
- Using grey adhesive under white marble — the grey colour bleeds through translucent stone and dulls it permanently. Always use the white variant.
- Skipping the primer on a painted or smooth surface — adhesive needs a key. Apply a bonding primer first.
- Mixing too thin or too thick — follow the manufacturer's water ratio exactly. Wrong consistency means weak bond.
