A plain mould oil just sits between the form and the concrete as a barrier, and on a face that's going to be seen that often isn't enough. You get blemishes, staining and blowholes where the film was uneven, and the result needs making good. Fosroc Reebol Standard from Fosroc works differently, because it reacts with the concrete rather than only sitting on the shutter as an oil film.

It's a blend of mineral oils and chemicals, and the chemicals react with the alkali in the fresh concrete to form a thin water-repellent skin right at the mould face. That reaction gives a cleaner, more complete release than a conventional oil, so the concrete strips quick and easy and comes away with a high-quality fair-faced finish and far fewer blemishes. The same reactive film protects steel and wooden formwork, which extends how many times the forms can be reused.

That makes it the choice where the cast face matters, like fair-faced columns, beams and architectural concrete, including work in white cement where staining shows up worst.
